Actions Speak Louder Than Words When Elevating the Community

Written by Mutual Security Credit Union | Jun 18, 2020 8:35:49 PM

Our hearts are broken for the black community. In the last few weeks we have been listening, learning and determining what role we can play in offering solutions.

Our tagline, elevating our community, knows no boundaries but we know it isn’t enough to just talk about it. To that end, we have made a financial commitment to be used for programs and entities that promote racial equality.

We will also be recognizing a holiday that is not nationally celebrated the way it’s supposed to be, but we realize acknowledging this day and its history is a part of the work. To commemorate Juneteenth, the effective end of slavery in the United States, MSCU will be closing at 2PM on June 19th to let our employees take the rest of the day to reflect, educate, and celebrate black history and culture.

We also recognize that our conversations about racial injustice and our actions need to sustain and evolve, so we have formed a diversity and inclusion committee to identify long-term ways for every single person in the Mutual Security Credit Union community to be valued, heard, respected, empowered, and feel a true sense of belonging.

Progress around dismantling systematic racism has been painfully slow over the course of our country’s history, but Mutual Security Credit Union is committed to doing our part to make sure that changes.

Here are some resources we've found helpful on becoming stronger allies and we hope you find them useful too:
