MSCU proudly congratulates our very own Alex Holderman, Watertown Branch Manager, on being selected by the Credit Union League of Connecticut as the recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Credit Union Young Professional Award 2024. This award highlights Alex’s leadership, commitment, and remarkable contributions to enhancing financial literacy and supporting underserved communities.

Since joining MSCU, Alex has demonstrated unwavering dedication to improving the financial well-being of our members. He completed the CUNA Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) and currently co-chairs the credit union’s Financial Independence Training (FIT) program, which offers members personalized guidance on budgeting, credit score improvement, and financial planning.

In his role, Alex has been instrumental in developing innovative products to meet the needs of underserved members. Most notably, he is part of a committee developing a unique credit builder loan designed to help members build or improve their credit through a payment-based system that releases the loan balance for use upon completion. This initiative is a testament to Alex’s forward-thinking approach to financial inclusion.

Alex’s impact goes beyond product development. He also ran one-on-one financial coaching sessions, leveraging the Salesforce platform to track members’ credit progress and provide ongoing support. This personalized service has empowered countless members to make informed financial decisions and achieve their goals.

Alex is deeply involved in community outreach, providing financial literacy presentations to diverse audiences, including high school students, college attendees, and seniors. His presentations cover essential topics like the basics of banking, avoiding scams, and understanding student loans. These efforts have become part of a broader financial education curriculum, such as the Serv Safe Manager Certification program at St. Vincent DePaul.

Hank Baum, President and CEO of MSCU, expressed his admiration for Alex’s dedication: "Alex embodies the true spirit of the credit union movement. His passion for financial education and commitment to serving our members and communities are inspiring. We are proud to have him on our team, and this recognition from the Credit Union League of Connecticut is a well-deserved honor."

Alex’s involvement with the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and coordination of a Pride in the Park volunteer event exemplifies his dedication to inclusivity. His recent recognition by the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury for his work with their LACE program highlights his commitment to financial literacy for all.

As Mutual Security Credit Union continues to serve our communities, we are proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of leaders like Alex, who exemplify our mission of building financial well-being within our communities.
